You Can Do It
It used to be that in order to publish a book, you had to secure agent representation and then wait for the agent to sell your book to a publisher. That's all changed now that self-publishing is so easy. In brief, here are the steps I took to publishing my book. I decided to use Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and CreateSpace to self-publish my book.
eBook:
Paperback:
eBook:
- Write your manuscript.
- Edit your manuscript.
- Save your file as a .PDF.
- Read the eBook Crush it with Kindle by John Tighe
- Create a Kindle Direct Publishing account (you don't need an ISBN for your eBook).
- Upload your file.
- Create a cover for your eBook.
- Set the pricing for your book.
- Provide your bank account info so royalties can be deposited.
- Create a web-site, Facebook page, etc. to advertise your book.
- Tell all your friends about your book so they will buy it!
Paperback:

- Edit your manuscript.
- Save your file as a .PDF.
- Create a CreateSpace account.
- Research your options for your ISBN (I chose to use a CreateSpace assigned ISBN)
- Upload your file.
- Create a cover for your book (using CreateSpace or a graphics software application).
- Set the pricing for your book.
- Provide your bank account info so royalties can be deposited.
- Order a PROOF of your book to ensure you formatting, grammar, etc. is the way you want it.
- Create an account at the Library of Congress (LOC.GOV) to register your literary work (this costs $35).
- Once you have finalized your book, upload the final version in CreateSpace. It will take up to a few days for your paperback to be available on Amazon! If your eBook and paperback don't appear when your title is searched, you can send an email through CreateSpace to link the two together. The support team is very helpful and quick to respond.
